Tech Club and Tech Club Jr.

2023-24 marks the 12th year of the Alvey Tech Club. Each year, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students work on technology projects each Wednesday after school. Tech club members learn a variety of computer skills and become technology leaders in the school. Members have created animations about animals, continents, and ancient civilizations. They have written and published digital mysteries, fables, and fairy tales. They have learned computer coding and coded their own video games. They have presented their work to other students, teachers, parents, and community members at Mary Washington University, Battlefield High School, Haymarket Elementary, and Mountain View Elementary.

Students apply online to be members of the club. Applications open after Winter Break. Due to space and computer limitations, only 30 members are chosen randomly from the applications received. This year's Tech Club theme and focus will be coding.  The club will meet Wednesdays after school from 3:30-4:30 from January 31 to March 20.

2023-24 also marks the first year of Tech Club Jr..  This new club will allow some of our younger Sunrays to learn computer coding.  Tech Club Jr. is open to first and second graders.  Students will be introduced to computer coding using the Scratch Jr. iPad app.  This app uses a picture block coding language.  Each week there will be a coding project for students to complete.

Students apply online to be member of the club.  Applications open after Winter Break.  Due to space and computer limitations, only 20 members are chosen randomly from the applications received.  The club will meet Wednesdays after school from 3:30-4:30 from January 24 to March 20.
