We are proud to announce that J.W.Alvey Elementary School is partnering with a local nonprofit organization, Boxes of Basics, to help provide clothing to local children in need!

This school year we will be collecting new and gently used children’s clothing in the area through the double doors.

Here are the details:

WHO: This collection supports local nonprofit Boxes of Basics. Their mission is to empower kids with seasonal wardrobes packed with dignity, compassion, and love. www.boxesofbasics.org

WHAT: Boxes of Basics accepts the following new or gently used items: Children’s clothing sizes newborn-16 youth, winter coats, children’s shoes all sizes and children’s books.

WHEN: This will be an ongoing collection during the school year.

WHERE: Drop off donations in the Boxes of Basics collection bin located in the area between the double doors anytime during school hours. Please DO NOT leave donations outside of the school.

HOW: Clothing donations are sorted and used to pack a seasonal wardrobe for local children in need. Boxes of Basics works with school counselors, social workers, faith leaders, and human services agencies in Prince William County to identify children facing clothing insecurity and provide them with stylish, high-quality clothing that will give them confidence and help them thrive.

WHY:  Clothing insecurity is the lack of access to affordable, adequate, and appropriate clothing and shoes. This issue affects thousands of local children, but with your help we can make a difference. This year Boxes of Basics is receiving a record number of requests and they need our help to keep up with demand.
