Gifted Identification Update (June 8, 2020)

With the closure of Prince William County Schools due to COVID-19, gifted identification has been on hold. At this time, we expect to resume the identification process in August. Additional meetings of the  division-level Gifted Identification/Placement Committee have been scheduled to review cases and make decisions regarding eligibility and placement for gifted services.  We will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the gifted resource teacher at your child's school.

Gifted Resource Teachers

START is the Gifted Education program for identified students in grades K-3. Students are identified based on specific academic aptitude in the areas of language and/or mathematics. The START goals are to challenge students to develop their skills in thinking critically, creatively and reflectively. Students are offered a variety of educational opportunities that extend and enrich the curriculum and support the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs).

In the 2019-2020 school year, Gifted Resource teachers will be teaching lessons in all kindergarten, first grade and second grade classes once per quarter. This time will be scheduled with the classroom teacher. Lessons will focus on creative and critical thinking.
