At Alvey Elementary, one of our school-wide focus areas is wellness. The Wellness Committee and staff have been discussing ways in which parents/guardians can have a positive effect on our children’s nutrition and eating habits while they are in school. While we appreciate your wish to recognize your child’s birthday by bringing treats to school, please be aware of the following guidelines that are in effect.
• All birthday celebrations will take place on the last Friday of each month in the cafeteria during scheduled lunch times. Please check with your child’s classroom teacher before sending in a treat in order to coordinate snacks.
• If you would like to send in something on the actual day of your child’s birthday, it must be a non-food item such as a pencil or book for the class library. Any food items that are brought in on a day other than the last Friday of the month will be sent back home with the student or parent.
• We strongly encourage healthy snacks to celebrate your child’s birthday. There are
several great websites that have recipes and ideas for fun and creative healthy snacks.
• If your child has a food allergy with restrictions, please send in a treat for your child on the last Friday of each month so that he/she does not feel excluded from the celebration.
The dates of the birthday celebrations can be found on the School-Wide Calendar on the Alvey Website. Thank you for supporting our wellness initiative.
