March 2017 Newsletter
Spring has sprung! We are still holding out hope that there is just one good snow! But if it’s not going to snow, we’re happy with lots of sunshine from now through the end of the year. There are many upcoming events to keep us busy for the next few months. We hope you can join us, please see the included calendar of events so you can refer to it throughout the month.
Field Day will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017. This is a day for all students to participate in organized outside activities with their class. We are in need of many volunteers to run the stations and make this day special for the kids! Any parent who wants to volunteer should email Mr. Nottingham at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Field Day for Grades 3-5 is 9:15a.m. to 11:15a.m.
Field Day for Grades K-2 is 12:45p.m. to 2:45p.m.
West End PWCS Technology and STEAM Showcase
Alvey is hosting the 5th Annual Technology & STEAM Showcase on Wednesday, April 5 from 5:00pm-6:00pm! All parents, teachers, students, and the community are welcome. Encore, Specialists, and Grade levels will be demonstrating how students integrate technology and use STEAM to solve challenges using the Engineering Design Process. Check your child’s backpack for more details which will be coming home soon!
Alvey will be hosting its first annual Bike Rodeo on Tuesday, April 4 from 4:30-7:00pm. Stations will be set up for Alvey students and their families to have their bikes inspected/repaired and their helmets properly fitted. Skill stations will be available to help children work on bicycle safety. We’re excited to have Haymarket Bicycles, A1 Cycling, and the Haymarket Police Department coming out to support this event!
Kindergarten registration is coming up on Thursday, April 6 from 9am-2pm and on Thursday, April 20 from 3:30pm-6pm. Students who will be five years of age or older by September 30 are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. Registration will take place for those students who reside within Alvey Elementary School boundaries.
Kindly bring the following documents with you:
1. The student’s original birth certificate.
2. Three proofs of residence (one must be a copy of the deed or settlement papers, rental or lease agreement, or a notarized Affidavit of Residency attesting to bona fide residency in Prince William County). Other examples of proofs of residency include utility bills, voter registration, driver’s license, etc.
3. A valid immunization record signed by a healthcare professional and a comprehensive physical exam that MUST BE DATED AFTER August 29, 2016. You may bring this information to us any time prior to the start of school.
