September 25 - Upcoming Field Trip to Jamestown
A letter will be coming home this week with information about our Jamestown field trip. This is an educational, fun trip where students will be able to see how the colonists lived during the 1600s. This correlates directly to the Virginia Studies SOLs that the students will be taking in May. The trip will be on November 10 so please add it to your calendars.
Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 28th at 6:45
Academic Update for the Week of September 19-23
Our first unit in math is Whole Numbers. I have our topics we focused on listed below. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email.
1. Students compared numbers up to the millions period.
2. Students estimated numbers prior to adding and subtracting to get their answers.
3. Students practiced adding whole numbers.
This past week our focus in reading was on Main Idea. Since our first several weeks of school were dedicated to practicing our reading stamina and focusing on how our rotations will be working, there have not been any grades as of yet. This week there will be some quick checks on reading comprehension and main idea since our rotations have begun.
Students also practiced writing responses in their notebooks. Each week there will be a response that they have to write based upon books they are reading during DEAR. These notebooks do not travel home.
Our first unit of study is Geography of Virginia. Students should be studying their packet nightly for 10 minutes in order to be prepared for quizzes. The numbers students study are a direct correlation to the sections of the unit that have been taught. Please check your child's agenda to see what numbers they are studying. This is the best way to gauge what has been taught in school.
Students began Natural Resources last week. If you have any questions regarding science, please contact Ms. Andersen at ANDERSME@pwcs.edu as she is the science teacher.
