Dear Students & Parents,
Our SOL testing dates are as follows:
- May 2 – Reading SOL
- May 10 – VA Studies SOL
- May 16 – Math SOL
- SOL MAKEUPS are ongoing – students are pulled for makeups upon returning to school
I have continued offering LUNCH BUNCH to all students. This is an optional SOL review session where we work on problem solving strategies while we eat lunch! All students are welcome, no student is required to attend.
On Monday, April 9th SOL Review began during CORE Extension (45 minutes) and during our Reader’s Workshop Book Clubs (20 minutes for each small group). I have met with 3 small groups each day on an alternating basis. All students will participate in this SOL Review as it is built into our class time and is not optional.
Finally, in order to build their test taking stamina on the computer, please help your child keep up with completing the weekly math homework and reading homework geared toward the SOL format. The assessments will be in I.A. (iTest/Powertest) and will be assigned on Mondays, due by Fridays.
See: the SOL Homework Calendar that was sent home (on Friday 4/6). I will use their scores and progress on these homework assignments to drive my small groups and target skills/concepts that each students needs to review and practice.
SOL season can be a stressful time if we allow it to be. Please join me in my efforts to teach students how to reduce stress. We have worked hard and we are prepared for these SOL’s! We will continue to practice a little more each day so that we can remain prepared and continue to improve.
Sincerely,
Ms. Hirmer
