I am "Owlfully" excited for a fantastic year with you!
We are continuing our reading and writing to learn about comparing and contrasting 2 things. We are also learning a little about figurative language as we think and write about the saying "In Like a Lion, Out like a Lamb".
In Math we are working on telling time to the nearest quarter hour and double digit addition.
We are starting a new Science unit on Habitats/Ecosystems & adaptations.
what a fun and exciting time of year, it is such a blessing to get to spend our days with these youngsters :) !!
We have been learning to Read with a purpose. We are learning to use text features such as Bold and italics to find important information. We are also focusing on Story Elements to help us with our comprehension.
We have written a December senses poem, really working to create a sensation in the reader's mind. We are also learning to use synonyms to add detail to our writing.
In Math we are learning about picto and bar graphs and how we can use them to give or read information.
In SS, we are learning so much about Native Americans. We have already covered the Powhatan and Lakota tribes and will cover Pueblo early next week. We will have a test on all three tribes and all Native American information found on the Study Guide on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 20th.
Class Winter Celebration - We will have gingerbread house making and an optional book exchange on the morning of Tuesday, December 20th. All are welcome :)

what a busy, full week we have had!
In Reading, we have been finding Important Test and Sequencing events.
in Writing, we wrote a November poem, worked on contractions, and wrote about what we are thankful for :)
in Math, we worked on place value, compared numbers using Greater than Less Than and Equal to and rounded numbers to the nearest 10.
In SS, we finished up our Geography unit and had our test. Our next unit will be on Native Americans.
We are collecting basket items for our class basket. This will be auctioned-off at a PTA event in December. Please consider donating one fiesta type item (non--perishable) or something else related to our theme, "Mexican Fiesta".
Ideas: Taco kit, chips & salsa, fiesta decorations, sombrero, cornbread mix, etc.
Gift Cards to El Vaquero, El Tio, Chipotle, Taco Bell, etc.
Donations need to be sent in by December 1st please.

Due to the shortened week (No school Friday) and Halloween festivities, there is NO HOMEWORK or Spelling for next week.

It's hard to believe we are nearing the end of our eighth week of school! Below please find an update on what we're currently working on.
Language Arts: We have been reading about bats, some non-fiction booklets (finding main idea & details), and now we are reading Stellaluna (comparing bats & birds). We are also working on Plural nouns this week.
Social Studies/Science: We have been learning/reviewing all of our Weather concepts. We have covered Tools (thermometer, weather vane & rain gauge), precipitation (Rain, snow, sleet & hail). We will be testing on Friday. Extra Study guides sent home today :). Next week we will finish with extreme weather (quiz Friday the 28th).
Math: We have been working on Geometry ( plane & solid shapes). Study Guides sent home today.
