J.W. Alvey lived in Catharpin, Virginia with his wife, Roberta “Pearl” Sanders, and their four sons—Jack Jr., Lynn, Bob, and Hampton—where he operated a local family business. The Alvey Grocery Store, a testament to his legacy, continues to thrive in the community today. As a dedicated civic leader, Mr. Alvey served as Chairman of Prince William County’s first Welfare Board, a director of the National Bank of Manassas, a member of the Prince William County Draft Board, and a member of the Prince William County School Board from 1944 to 1957. Over the course of forty-three years of service, he earned a reputation as a hardworking, honest, and fair family man who treated everyone with respect, regardless of their social standing. His son Bob shared that Mr. Alvey would be “overwhelmed to have a school named for him,” and the Alvey family deeply appreciates the community’s recognition of their patriarch’s lifelong dedication and service. We believe Mr. Alvey would be immensely proud of the exceptional staff and students who continue to honor his legacy through dedicated community service and a commitment to well-rounded education.
