Last year the Runaway Sunrays helped over 150 students finish a 5k (3.1 miles). We will continue to provide this opportunity to 3rd - 5th graders this winter/spring.  Our mission will be to prepare students to run a 5K at the end of the season, using an established 10 week run/walk program.  It is not necessary to have prior running experience, but it will be required that the students adhere to the training schedule to the best of their ability and commit to participating in the Alvey/Reagan/Gravely 5K Color Run on April 27, at 8AM.

As part of the Runaway Sunrays registration packet, we are collecting $35 to help offset the costs of the running program, running shirts, coach’s shirts, etc. (Each additional child is $25). This fee does not cover race registration costs. Children of FULLTIME running coaches will be complimentary. Please make checks payable to J.W. Alvey Elementary School.  NO cash please.

Practices will be held every Thursday after school from 3:00- 4:00 PM.  They will begin on Thursday, Feb. 14.  Students will be assigned a running group according to their abilities along with a teacher or parent coach. It is imperative that your child makes every attempt to attend each Thursday in order to complete the program and support their group members as well.

Please fill out the registration packet online at Runaway Sunrays Online Registration in full by February 8, 2019. We will not accept any registrations after February 8, 2019.  Your packet consists of a Parent Consent and Waiver Form, Behavior Policy, and Pick-up Procedures.  The number of students we are able to accept is based solely upon the number of coaches we have for the season.  We will accept students on a first come, first serve basis.  Please ensure that your packet is complete and payment given to Mr. Morris as soon as possible.

If you are interested in coaching, please note that on the online registration.  If you would like to donate or be a sponsor to the Alvey/Reagan/Gravely 5K Color Run or the Runaway Sunrays, please contact Mr. Morris.
